First and foremost.....one should know what exactly is a contact lens. So Contact lenses are small visual devices made with curved pieces of plastic, that are placed directly on to the eye to correct vision, used as an alternative to spectacles, or, if coloured, to change one's eye color cosmetically. There are mainly two common reasons to use contact lenses. The first one is poor eyesight while the second one is the urge to move along with the fashion.
Now-a-days there is a wide range of spectacles available in market. But still people prefer contact lenses as they feel it would match up to their personality and also with the trend. Also spectacles have many disadvantages associated with it such as it might create a distortion between your eye. Also the glasses fog up with changes in temperature, and one cant even think of wearing it in rain or snow. Sometimes eyeglasses looks very odd on the face of various persons as per the fashion.
This all does not mean that contact lenses have no disadvantages. Contact lenses also has many disadvantages associated with it such as if it is not used in a proper manner it may damage the cornea. It also involves a high risk of infection if proper hygeine is not maintained. Touching the eye allows contaminants on the skin and lenses to enter the eye. Some lenses increase the evaporation of drops in the eye. While some others make slower the evaporation. when you put on the lenses you can make damage on the eyes structure and in this way make less powerful the immune. Even if an outdated contact lens is used it causes swelling of the eyes as oxygen is not supplied properly to the cornea. Wearing contact lenses while sleeping may damage the cornea sometimes leading to blindness.
All these disadvantages can be avoided to some extent if we adopt some safety measures like:
Remove your contacts regularly and clean them to reduce the possibility of eye infections.
Dont exceed the expiry date of the contact lenses.
If you feel irritation in your eyes remove the contact lenses at once.
Dont use low quality contact lenses.
Never cook when you are wearing your contact lenses.
Clean your hands properly before touching the contact lenses.
Never sleep with your contact lenses on.
Store contact lenses in a hygienic place
Use only the recommended solutions for lubricating or wetting lenses or for any part of your lens care regime.
Don't share your contact lenses with anyone. It is unhygienic and there is danger of infections.
